Elton John shock: Veteran singer takes break after tour, thinks about what’s coming next for him

Is this the end of the Yellow Brick Road for Elton John, the “Rocket Man”? After his final tour, Farewell Yellow Bright Road, he’s taking a break to think about his next steps.

The 75-year-old singer revealed the shocking news during Fleur East’s Hits Radio Breakfast show appearance.

The “Rocket Man” singer stated:

“After next year when I finish in Stockholm, I’ll go on a bit of a hiatus and figure out what I’m going to do next.”

Although he hasn’t decided what’s next for him, his schedule isn’t exactly free either, as he has several projects planned for the coming year.

He listed off some of his forthcoming projects:

“There’s a documentary out next year, I have a musical coming out next year. I have a musical coming out this year at the Almeida Theatre called ‘Tammy Faye’ which I’ve written with Jake Shears from the Scissor Sisters.”

He continued:

“I like to keep myself busy but music to me is the most incredibly healing and fabulous thing.

My whole life has been informed with music and it’s not going to stop now.”

This is evident in his more recent and more dated releases. In 2021, John released his 31st studio album, “Regimental Sgt. Zippo,” as well as “The Lockdown Sessions.”

He also recently collaborated with Britney Spears on “Hold Me Closer,” a song from her album “Toxic.”

Given his love and passion for music, he may not live long, and he seems to recognize this:

“I’m open to anything but I’ve got to finish my tour and I probably won’t release anything next year but who knows!

I may get an offer from somebody, you never know… I might do something on someone else’s record but not on mine.”

John also discussed his collaboration with Britney Spears, stating that his husband David Furnish suggested he work with the 40-year-old singer.

He recalled:

“We’ve been in a bit of a Britney bubble because we watched the documentary and been following what’s been happening to her and I said I’d love her to do it.

I’d love to sing with her and I think it would be good for her, tremendously good for her.”

He also stated that the single was the first to focus on Spears’ music career rather than her personal life.

“Hold Me Closer” is Spears’ first project since leaving the conservatory, and John was ecstatic to have her on board:

“It’s a real big bonus for me to have her on the song, she still sings amazingly and I’m trying to get her back to what she does – singing.”
