During Domestic Violence Awareness Month, actress Abigail Breslin discusses her dark past.

Abigail Breslin is best known for her role as Little Rock in the horror comedy “Zombieland.” She has also appeared in several films and made her Broadway debut in “The Miracle Worker” as Helen Keller.

In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the “Stillwater” star recently took to Instagram to share her experience. In her Instagram post, Abigail recalled how her relationship began “perfectly” and how she was “so in love” until things went wrong. Her abuser took advantage of her “innocence and naiveté” and became violent towards her.

Breslin wrote on Instagram:

“As a DV survivor, I felt compelled to write a little about my story. I was in a very abusive relationship for close to two years. It all started out perfectly, I was so in love. Unfortunately, my abuser took advantage of my innocence and naïveté and the relationship subsequently became violent.”

Breslin described her abusive two-year relationship as “beaten on a regular basis, locked into rooms, and forced to pretend everything was okay and normal while dealing with intense injuries”

As Abigail Breslin described her pain, she admitted that she still has post-traumatic stress disorder due to the relationship but that things are much more manageable now that she is healing.

Breslin concluded her Instagram post:

“The aftermath of abuse is a complicated and individual experience. I hope sharing a bit more about my story at least helps some people feel a little bit less alone. If you are in an abusive relationship currently, you CAN get out of it. I know it seems impossible and terrifying, but you have survived so much and you CAN survive leaving if you have the right tools and support.”

The actress, 26, has revealed that she is now in a “wonderful, healthy, happy, and amazing relationship.” She is currently rumored to be dating her longtime boyfriend, Ira Kunyansky, with whom she has been engaged since February.
