On Twitter, a feud appeared to be brewing after Britney Spears made a rather scathing and obvious remark about another pop star.

The pop star shared two selfies in a red bikini that showed off her toned body and messy blonde hair. While the photo appeared to be innocuous, the caption was anything but.

Spears posted at the time:

“Don’t you just love the nerve of women who stand firmly getting awards and speak on their beliefs about not showing their bodies on instagram ???!!!!!”

“This is NOT something I would do yet those women are the very ones who get 4 million dollar budget videos made about sucking and licking on homemade ice cream ÷ !!!! These other girls have nothing but beautiful bodies !!!! Who cares if the flaunt it ??? THEY SHOULD !!! So the next time I see someone with a big budget video sucking on lollipops © yet giving righteous speeches shaming other women for exposing their bodies, I would like to tell those people don’t be a hypocrite as you suck on your lollipop having HUGE budget dreams … why would you stand firmly against girls getting attention JUST LIKE YOU and they have absolutely nothing????”

Fans appear to believe Britney is aiming at Selena Gomez, who delivered an emotional speech about women’s empowerment at the American Music Awards in 2016. Spears appeared to be referring to Selena’s recent collaboration with BLACKPINK, “Ice Cream.”

It was unclear what prompted Spears to disparage Selena, one of the few guests at her exclusive wedding earlier this year.

Britney received a deluge of criticism for her post, with many defending Selena on her behalf.

A user commented:

“selena has shown nothing but love and support for you throughout the years and in return she gets weekly shady instagram posts from you.. check yourself girl.”

Another posted:

“what’s wrong with you ?? i used to adore you and respect you a lot and so does Selena – speechless.”

Britney quickly recanted her lengthy statement on Instagram, replacing it with three rose emojis.

However, one Twitter user speculated that it could be about Meghan Trainor, who recently released a Candyland music video featuring lollipop and ice cream. Trainor was said to be working with Lou Traylor, one of many people to blame for Britney Spear’s contentious conservatorship.

As of this writing, neither Gomez nor Spears had commented on the situation.
