Selena Gomez is one of many Disney Channel stars who have become some of the world’s biggest celebrities and pop stars. She belongs to the same generation as Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato, both of whom had their television shows and films, as did Gomez.
While the three’s friendship appeared unbreakable at the time, they drifted apart for unknown reasons. They’ve all remained civil until now, but not as close as they’d come on the webcam goofing off.
In recent years, Gomez has formed a close friendship with another pop star, Taylor Swift. The two became best friends, and their bond grew stronger.
Taylor and Selena, dubbed Taylena by many, have been through a lot together. According to Billboard, the two have one rare celebrity friendship that has lasted a long time and is a ride-or-die friendship in the celebrity world.
Many people would notice the two sitting together in awards shows, the first to applaud each other’s accomplishments.
Gomez praised Swift and their friendship in an interview with The Wall Street Journal.
Gomez told The Wall Street Journal:
“We clicked instantly, and, man, that was my girl. We both went through sh- at the same time. She taught me a lot about how I should be treated at a young age.”
During Swift’s many arena tours, Gomez surprised many fans with their friendship with a rare appearance. She has performed on three tours: the “Speak Now” tour, the “1989” tour, and the most recent “Reputation” tour. Who can say? Maybe she’ll crash again on Swift’s “The Eras” 2023 tour?
Swift also cast Gomez and their other girlfriends in her star-studded “Bad Blood” music video.
During the Scooter Braun vs. Taylor Swift Masters controversy, Selena was quick to defend her bestie, writing a hefty and poignant message to everyone opposing Swift.
She said in a statement:
“Seeing my best friend (or any of my friends) be constantly pulled down is the worst feeling. Taylor fights. She will never stop fighting. People grow from choices. Some will stay exactly the same. I just want a change of heart. I love you.”
The love between the two is undeniably strong. Selena recently opened up to Rolling Stone about her battle with bipolar disorder. Swift’s significance in her life was revealed in the interview.
Selena said:
“I never fit in with a cool group of girls that were celebrities. My only friend in the industry really is Taylor [Swift], so I remember feeling like I didn’t belong. I felt the presence of everyone around me living full lives. I had this position, and I was really happy, but … was I? Do these materialistic things make me happy?”
“My Mind & Me,” Selena Gomez’s documentary, is now available on Netflix.
