Selena Gomez’s documentary “My Mind and Me,” which was released recently, revealed a different side of the singer, a vulnerable side that she did not often show her fans.
This catapulted her back into the spotlight, earning her interviews with various publications, including Rolling Stone.
In an interview with the magazine, she stated:
“I never fit in with a cool group of girls that were celebrities. My only friend in the industry really is Taylor [Swift], so I remember feeling like I didn’t belong.”
This seemingly innocuous remark has sparked a flurry of rumors, the most prominent of which is that she and Francia Raisa, the actress and friend who donated a kidney to the singer, are no longer best friends.
However, Gomez appears to be having none of it. She commented on a TikTok video speculating on the couple’s split:
“Sorry I didn’t mention every person I know.”
This follows Gomez’s Rolling Stone quote, which E! News shared on Instagram and to which Raisa commented, “interesting.”
The comment has since been removed, but several screenshots have been shared on social media, leading fans to Raisa’s Instagram account, where they discovered that the actress was no longer following the “Rare” singer. Gomez is still following Raisa, according to the Daily Mail UK.
Gomez and the “Bring It On: All or Nothing” star have a long history. According to reports, they first met in 2007 while visiting a children’s hospital.
When Gomez announced in 2017 that she had Lupus, an autoimmune disease, her name was constantly brought up because she had donated a kidney to the singer.
Gomez took to Instagram to post a photo of herself holding Raisa’s hand while lying on the hospital bed.
“There aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis.”
However, the pair’s feud was revealed after the kidney donation. According to reports, Raisa was upset about the singer’s “unhealthy lifestyle,” which included drinking after surgery. They allegedly reconciled in 2021.
While it appears that the two are feuding again, according to Elite Daily, there is no proof that Raisa followed Gomez on Instagram in the first place.
This has been a source of contention between Gomez and Raisa fans. According to reports, there is no evidence that the actress followed the singer before the latter’s remark.
On the other hand, some fans pointed out that Gomez was referring to friends in the music industry, of which Raisa is not a part.
A fan wrote:
“I didn’t know Francia did music, I thought she was an actress.”
Another tweeted:
“Because you aren’t industry friends? Selena literally calls you her sister. If you check the actual interview Selena is clearly implying her social circle of pop girls. Why does Selena constantly need to keep reminding you of the place you hold in her life publicly?”
