Dove Cameron wins AMAs best new artist amid Grammy snub: Is this who she should thank?

Dove Cameron was named Best New Artist of the Year at the 2022 American Music Awards, outperforming other up-and-coming artists in the music industry with her charm and presence.

Her huge win came just days after the 2023 Grammy Awards Nominations were announced, a list that clearly does not include her.

Despite having been in the industry for a long time as a Disney child star, Cameron only broke into the mainstream scene early last year when she released her debut solo single, “Boyfriend.”

Cameron rose to internet fame due to the song debuting at No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 and soared to No. 2 on the US Mainstream Top 40.

She has been nominated for four new artist/act categories, winning two of them – her MTV Video Music Awards and the American Music Awards.

Cameron was nominated alongside emerging rap act Latto, Eurovision’s Maneskin, TikTok star Gayle, rapper Baby Keem, and even KPop supergroup Seventeen on both bills.

Many publications predicted Cameron as a frontrunner for Best New Artist even before the 2023 Grammy nominations were announced. To the dismay of fans, she was one of the night’s biggest snubs, alongside her idol, Nicki Minaj.

Because of her outspoken support for Minaj, fans of the rap royalty have turned against her, particularly during the voting process for the American Music Awards. Dove’s fans and Minaj’s Barbz have joined forces to show their love for each other, even publicly campaigning for each other.

That is why many fans rejoiced when Cameron was named Best New Artist at the 2022 American Music Awards on November 22, 2022.

Barbz are also celebrating her win, noting that their support meant a lot more given that she and Nicki were two of the biggest snubs at the 2023 Grammys, as a clip of her speech was posted online.
