Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, and Lindsay Lohan formed one of the most iconic celebrity trios in history in the early 2000s, and now that all three are doing much better in their personal lives and careers, it’s no surprise that they’ll be spotted together from time to time.

Over the weekend, Hilton celebrated her friend Cade Hudson’s birthday with a carousel of Instagram photos, but one in particular caught everyone’s attention: it was a photo of Hilton, Hudson, and Spears.

Perhaps it was because fans couldn’t believe Spears was leaving her house and actually hanging out with long-time friends, or for another reason, but the heiress was accused of photoshopping the “Toxic” singer between herself and Hudson.

Others speculated that a body double must have been used while the photo was being taken.

A fan reportedly wrote:

“That’s not Britney.”

Another added:

“It’s really strange how half the necklace chains are missing in the photo with Britney. And what’s wrong with her fingers?”

“Is that an AI Britney? Look at her fingers!!! WTF Paris? You’re becoming more and more shady to me and I used to love you dude. How dare you participate in whatever is going on with Brit?”

According to the Daily Mail UK, the “Stars Are Blind” singer responded to the rumors in the comments section:

“To all those asking. Some of these photos were taken on an iPhone so they ended up being blurry.”

“So, they used this app called Remini to make it look unblurry, and sometimes, the AI distorts images. Didn’t want to even dignify this with a response. But some of these conspiracy theories are absolutely ridiculous.”

Furthermore, according to Buzzfeed, Spears’ presence in the photo should come as no surprise; after all, she and Hilton are close with Hudson, who also happens to be Spears’ longtime agent.

Spears’ fans may be correct—or incorrect—but one thing is certain: they will fiercely defend the “Oops I Did It Again” singer from anyone who would use her for clout or anything of the sort.

Their overprotectiveness, which borders on obsession, could be attributed to the singer’s numerous problems and trauma caused by her 13-year conservatorship.

However, it is safe to assume that Hilton does not need Spears’ clout and that the two are genuine friends. The two are considered early-2000s it girls and have no bad blood between them.
