Despite being one of the most successful artists of his generation, Ed Sheeran is similar to other people who take time away from social media to reorganize their priorities and sort out their lives and themselves.

In his most recent social media update, the 31-year-old singer stated:

“Hi guys, so I realize I haven’t been that engaged in my social media or my fan base online over the last couple of years,”

The “Bad Habits” singer returned to social media after a hiatus that began in 2022, though it is worth noting that Sheeran has always avoided social media even prior to his planned hiatus.

He continued:

“And the things that have been posted on this account might have got a bit boring. And I’m sorry, it’s my fault.”

Many people assumed that he was not the type of person who used social media, but this was not the case.

“Umm, the reason I’m making this video is, just being totally honest, I’ve had some turbulent things been happening in my personal life, so I just didn’t really feel like being online and pretending to be something I’m not when I wasn’t feeling like that.”

Sheeran did not reveal what caused his personal life to become so turbulent, but the signs of distress were evident when he abruptly announced his semi-retirement in 2019, according to reports.

According to Buzzfeed, Sheeran may be avoiding social media for a variety of reasons, including the fact that he is now a father of two.

Although the “Shape of You” singer is gradually returning to Instagram, it appears that he has no plans—at least for the time being—to return to Twitter.

His absence from Twitter was compensated for by an account managed by his management team, “Ed Sheeran HQ.”

Another reason Sheeran may be returning to social media is that he is still on a high from his massively successful “Mathematics Tour.”

The tour earned the “Shivers” singer the No. 3 spot on Billboard’s 2022 Top Tours Chart with $246.3 million.

He is still on tour, and perhaps he simply wants to inform his fans about his daily life on the road.

He then concluded his confession video with a humorous note:

“So you know, weird s**t is gonna start being posted here. I’ve made this video about 50 f**king times I’m not making another one!”
