Demi Lovato has been in the music industry for over two decades. The pop star will likely concentrate on telling the story behind the spotlight in an upcoming documentary directed by themselves.
The “Substance” singer, who identifies as non-binary and uses “they/them/she/her” in pronouns, will direct a documentary titled “Child Star,” according to Rolling Stone.
The “highs and lows of growing up in the spotlight” will be the focus of the upcoming film. The former Disney star is qualified to direct because she has had a lot of experience with fame at a young age.
Aside from Lovato, the documentary will also feature “some of the world’s most famous former child stars,” but the production has yet to reveal who will appear in the film.
The “Neon Lights” hitmaker stated that their directorial debut is close to home because there is no better film or topic for them to tackle besides this story.
They added:
“Our project sheds light on important messages about growing up in the public eye, learning to protect our boundaries, and becoming active advocates of our own destinies,”
The pop star went on to say that she is humbled to learn from people who have had a different experience growing up in the spotlight.
The film will include interviews with some of the industry’s most popular former child stars and archival footage of them growing up.
Belisa Balaban, SVP of documentaries and unscripted series at Hulu Original, said the film would also address Lovato’s personal experiences and relationships.
One of the reasons they’re releasing the documentary is that their audience is interested in learning the truth behind pop culture, and Lovato’s story fits the type of stories they want to share with the public.
No release date has been announced as of this writing, but the outlet has stated that it will be available sometime in 2024.
Demi Lovato has been in the industry for over 20 years, beginning with an appearance on “Barney & Friends” in 2002 with Selena Gomez.
Following this, the singer worked on several Disney projects, including the “Princess Protection Program,” “Camp Rock,” and others. They later began a music career and released several albums.
Despite her celebrity, Lovato has struggled with issues such as an eating disorder, drug abuse, and more throughout her career, but she has since recovered.
