The constant drama surrounding Donald Trump’s health and cognitive state has become a national political obsession, but when a comedian from the former president’s own, self-proclaimed ‘MAGA favourite’ circle weighs in, the scrutiny takes a sharper, more uncomfortable turn.
The latest storm of speculation has been ignited by stand-up Shane Gillis, a comedian whose sharp, often controversial, humour has earned him a substantial following among the conservative and ‘MAGA’ crowds, a following he has cemented as part of podcasting powerhouse Joe Rogan’s inner circle.
Speaking on Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast, Gillis did more than just joke; he seriously entertained the idea that the 79-year-old Donald Trump might be displaying symptoms of cognitive decline.
The conversation that sparked this debate centred on one of the president’s typically abrasive, off-the-cuff remarks, where he told a reporter, ‘Quiet, piggy’, during a public appearance.
This crude comment provided the launchpad for Gillis’s co-host, Matt McCusker, to pose the direct and provocative question: ‘You think he’s getting dementia?’
Gillis, who is renowned for his accurate Donald Trump impressions, did not dismiss the idea outright, responding, ‘I mean, I don’t know. He just seems a little slower than usual.’ The comedy hosts were thus thrust into the heart of the national political debate over the President’s fitness.
McCusker then escalated the discussion, asking if ‘T-Dog might be rocking Biden brains’, a reference to the former President Joe Biden’s heavily rumoured battles with dementia.
While Gillis, who is a frequent guest on the PowerfulJRE podcast, maintained that the President has ‘definitely not at Biden brains yet’, he added a worrying qualifier that Donald Trump is ‘circling the drain’.
This stark assessment from a comedian who typically attracts the former president’s base adds a new, unsettling dimension to the ongoing health speculation, suggesting that the concern is now crossing party lines.
Donald Trump’s Mental Health Under Scrutiny
The discussion on the podcast directly taps into a widespread public concern fuelled by Donald Trump’s own highly volatile public behaviour. Despite his medical team’s assurances, the President’s actions have often prompted observers to question his mental condition.
Just recently, Donald Trump drew severe fire for his unhinged response to six Democratic lawmakers—all of whom previously served in the military or intelligence—after they released a video encouraging US troops to defy unlawful commands. His response, posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, was both furious and alarming.
On Thursday, November 20, 2025, Donald Trump raged, accusing the group of high treason: ‘This is really bad and Dangerous to our Country. Their words cannot be allowed to stand. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP??? President DJT’. He followed up this post with an even more chilling threat just hours later, stating: ‘SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!’
As if this were not enough to draw speculation, Donald Trump went on to repost a comment from a social media user that declared, ‘HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD’, a move that left Democratic politicians aghast and intensified concerns about the stability and temperament of the Commander-in-Chief.
This kind of off-the-cuff, inflammatory language and call for the execution of elected officials is precisely what drives the ‘dementia’ rumours, as it appears divorced from political norms and reality.
The Official Line On Donald Trump’s Physical Health
It is important to note that the debate over Donald Trump’s cognitive state is running parallel to ongoing scrutiny of his physical health. Over the summer, photographs showed the President attempting to conceal noticeable purple bruising on his right hand, often with poorly applied concealer.
In July 2025, the White House physician, Dr. Sean Barbabella, attempted to quell these concerns with a formal medical assessment. He chalked the bruising up to minor soft tissue irritation resulting from frequent handshaking, compounded by his use of aspirin as part of a ‘standard cardiovascular prevention regimen’.
The doctor diagnosed Donald Trump with chronic venous insufficiency, which he described as a ‘benign and common’ condition, especially in men over the age of 70.
Furthermore, Donald Trump’s former physician, Ronny Jackson, has been publicly vocal in his support, claiming that he remains in consultation with the current White House medical team and that his former patient ‘is mentally and physically sharper than ever before’.
This view, however, is being directly challenged by the very people who form his support base, highlighting a significant political vulnerability for the President.
The speculation, whether driven by medical facts or political rhetoric, is clearly ‘circling the drain’ of Donald Trump‘s public image.
