MAICAO, COLOMBIA – JUNE 08: United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNCHR) Special Envoy Angelina Jolie delivers a speech during a press conference after visiting a refugee camp in the border between Colombia and Venezuela on June 8, 2019 in Maicao, Colombia. UN and International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced yesterday that 4 million of Venezuelans have left their country since 2015 due to the social, political and economic crisis, which means they are of the single largest population groups displaced from their country globally. The camp in Maicao has 60 tents which can accommodate up to 350 people. Due to high demand, UNHCR is considering an expansion to give shelter to 1,400 people. Angelina Jolie has revealed she has not been on a single date since her divorce from Brad Pitt, telling an interviewer in Los Angeles that ‘life has broken me a little’ as she promotes her new film Couture.

The news came after the 51-year-old star sat down with Yahoo Entertainment, in an interview published on Tuesday 23 June and cited by People, to discuss Couture and her character Maxine Walker, a filmmaker who finds unexpected love while facing a breast cancer diagnosis. In the middle of talking about the role, Jolie quietly pivoted to something far more personal, appearing to reference the high‑profile split from Pitt that has defined so much of her recent life.

‘To be candid, I haven’t dated since I divorced a decade ago, right?’ she said, describing herself first and foremost as a mother of six. ‘So I kind of get in my head that that aspect of me is not centered in my life if I’m focusing on my children and my family.’

It was a rare, stripped‑back admission from someone who has spent years dodging speculation about secret partners, mystery dinners and imagined reunions. For once, Jolie just said the quiet part out loud.

Angelina Jolie Finds Pieces Of Herself In Couture

For starters, Jolie was meant to be talking about work. In Couture, she plays Maxine Walker, a woman trying to direct a film while living with breast cancer and, crucially, allowing herself to fall in love again. It is a storyline that touches several nerves for the Oscar winner.

Jolie explained that stepping into Maxine’s romantic arc forced her to examine how she has shut down that side of her own life since the breakdown of ‘Brangelina’, a divorce that has rolled on, legally and emotionally, for years.

‘So it took me a second to say, “Look, she can also love her daughter and be dedicated to her daughter and also need this as a woman and receive this as a woman.” And that in fact, it might be very healing for her,’ she said of her character.

Those words, on the surface about Maxine, also sounded uncomfortably close to a self‑diagnosis. Jolie has long framed her choices through the lens of motherhood and survival, but here she seemed to acknowledge there might be room for a different kind of healing too.

The role cuts even deeper because of her family history. Jolie’s mother, Marcheline Bertrand, died in 2007 from complications of ovarian and breast cancer. That loss has shaped many of Jolie’s public decisions, from her preventive surgeries to her advocacy work, and now it echoes again in the narrative of Couture.

Against that backdrop, her next admission landed with quiet weight. The Girl, Interrupted star said simply: ‘Life has broken me a little,’ before adding, ‘I have to live again. Be free again.’

It is not the kind of glossy pull‑quote studios dream of when they send an A‑lister out to sell a film. It is, however, the sort of line that makes you pause and actually believe her.

Angelina Jolie Credits Her Daughters With ‘Bringing Me Back’

To recall, Jolie and Pitt’s marriage breakdown instantly became one of the most dissected celebrity divorces of the past decade, overshadowing their work and entangling their six children in court documents, headlines and fan wars. Since then, Jolie has mostly retreated from the usual Hollywood social circuit, surfacing only for select projects and humanitarian work.

In the interview, she made it clear who has filled that space while dating has been off the table. Speaking about her daughters Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 20, and Vivienne, 17, Jolie described how their emerging adult voices have become a mirror she did not quite expect.

‘They speak to me as young women, and I see what I want for them,’ she said. ‘I see what I don’t want them to lose and what I want them to hold on to. And in a way, this is reminding me of what I might have lost myself.’

She went further, saying her daughters are ‘bringing me back to my old self’. For anyone who remembers the younger Jolie, stomping down red carpets in leather, vials of blood and that famously wild energy, the idea that her children are now nudging her back towards that unapologetic version of herself is oddly full‑circle.

‘I think they kind of want me now to not just be “Mom”,’ she added. ‘There’s a different room for me to be that woman again, that’s not just a mom.’

It is a small sentence with a big implication. If her girls are giving her unofficial permission to reclaim her life beyond parenting, it sounds like Jolie is at least entertaining the idea.

Post‑Brad Reality: Jolie Stays Single, Pitt Moves On

For context, since the couple’s split, Jolie has largely kept her professional slate lean, taking on only a handful of acting roles while centring home life with her six children: Maddox, 24, Pax, 22, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 17. The interview underscores what fans have long suspected, that her time has been funnelled into parenting rather than romance or endless work grinds.

On the other side of the famously messy divide, Brad Pitt’s private life has looked very different. The actor has been dating jewellery executive Ines de Ramon since 2022, according to multiple reports, a fact that has fuelled inevitable comparisons between his apparent ease in moving on and Jolie’s self‑described decade without dating.

Jolie did not criticise Pitt or comment directly on his relationship, sticking instead to her own experience. Still, her line about being ‘broken’ will no doubt be read against the backdrop of years of legal battles, tabloid leaks and fans picking sides in a war neither of them seems able to fully escape.

There is a weary honesty in the way she frames it. No spin, no big reinvention narrative, just a woman saying she put romance on a shelf for ten years and is only now considering if she might want to take it down again. Whether that leads to an actual date, or just a slightly less guarded Angelina Jolie on a film set, is anyone’s guess.

And maybe that is the point, that she is finally allowing there to be a question mark at all.
