Prince William and Prince Harry are expected to keep a total blackout in place when the Duke of Sussex returns to the UK next week, with royal sources claiming the estranged brothers have ‘no plans’ to meet despite King Charles’ cancer treatment and the family’s public pleas for unity.

The fractured relationship between Prince William and Prince Harry has been laid bare for years, from Harry and Meghan’s decision to step back as working royals to the publication of Spare and a series of bruising interviews. Yet, according to a source quoted by Us Weekly, the communication freeze is now almost absolute, with ‘no direct communication, no texts, no calls, no emails, nothing’ between the pair since the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022.

Prince William And Harry’s ‘No Movement’ Truce

The latest claims suggest that, even as King Charles continues cancer treatment and prepares to welcome Harry back onto home soil, Prince William is not ready to bridge the divide.

The insider told Us Weekly there is ‘no movement’ towards reconciliation, despite the fact that the brothers are the ‘only two people alive who know what their childhood was like’, including the trauma of losing their mother, Princess Diana, in 1997. In royal terms, that shared history used to be unbreakable glue. Now, it is apparently not even enough to secure a phone call.

The source stressed that Harry is not being treated as another Prince Andrew, saying: ‘Harry is not Andrew [Mountbatten-Windsor], and he never will be, but William isn’t ready [to make up].’ The distinction matters. Within palace circles, Andrew’s exile is a byword for permanent disgrace. Harry, by contrast, still sits in a more complicated space, somewhere between prodigal son and professional outsider.

Emily Nash, royal editor at Hello!, told Us Weekly she believes both brothers are hurting. ‘I think there’s almost certainly sadness on both sides, but this is the situation they’re in, and they have to make the best of it,’ she said. It is guarded language, but in royal reporting that is often as close as you get to someone saying, plainly, that the whole thing is a mess.

Prince William Keeps Distance As Harry Flies In

Harry’s trip next week centres on his Invictus Games work, with events marking the ‘one year to go’ milestone before the next Games in Birmingham in July 2027. The Duke is also scheduled to visit long‑standing patronages including children’s charity WellChild and bereaved military charity Scotty’s Little Soldiers.

Originally, Harry was due to travel with Meghan Markle and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. According to Us Weekly, that plan is now uncertain amid ongoing security discussions. Nothing is confirmed yet so everything should be taken with a grain of salt.

What is clearer is the approach from the King. A royal source quoted by Us Weekly said Charles has invited Harry and his family to stay at a royal residence during the visit, adding that ‘he’s made it clear their comfort and security is a priority’. Inside some royal circles, that invitation has been talked up as a potential first step in mending the relationship with the Sussexes at large, with one source claiming ‘everyone’s buzzing with excitement’.

Prince William, however, appears to be taking a different tack. Nash told Us Weekly that William and Harry have ‘no plans’ to meet while Harry is in the country and that ‘there’s no communication there at present’. She described the situation as ‘very sad for all involved’, but noted both men are ‘very busy getting on with their lives’, suggesting any thaw is more slow burn than dramatic reunion.

People close to Harry insist the emotional cost of the breakdown is real. A source told Us Weekly that ‘Harry misses William more than he misses “the institution”’ and that he longs for ‘someone who doesn’t need anything explained’. The same source believes William quietly feels something similar, saying: ‘William’s desire [to see Harry] exists at a level he hasn’t given himself permission to act on yet.’ In other words, the will might be there, but the politics and the bruises are still in the way.

King Charles Stays Open As Brothers Prioritise Duty

If Prince William is standing back, he is not blocking others. According to Us Weekly, William ‘would not stand in the way’ of King Charles maintaining a relationship with Harry and Meghan. One insider said there are ‘mixed emotions’ about the King seeing Harry ‘given their history’, but added that William separates his own feelings from ‘his father’s happiness’ and ‘won’t get involved’.

Nash framed that stance in the wider culture of the monarchy. ‘This is a family for whom, for many years, duties come first,’ she said. ‘It’s a very difficult balance, because there are human beings involved and at the end of the day, siblings involved. You don’t want to turn your back on them completely, but at the same time, you have to protect the institution.’

That tension, protecting ‘the institution’ while trying not to lose a brother, runs through every detail of this story. Harry is carving out his own projects and funding his own security battles, yet still leans on causes he built as a working royal. William is the heir apparent, shouldering more public responsibility as his father undergoes treatment, and cannot afford fresh drama. Both know what the other is dealing with. Neither is picking up the phone.

IBTimes UK cannot independently verify these reported private conversations and feelings, so take everything lightly. Royal households have not publicly commented on the latest claims, which, in itself, says something. Silence, in this family, has become its own sort of statement.

Whether Harry’s brief return and the King’s open door make any difference to the long stalemate with Prince William will only become clear over time. For now, the two boys who once walked behind the same coffin are said to be living separate lives, in separate countries, barely on speaking terms. In a dynasty obsessed with continuity, that is the wildest break of all.
