SEVENTEEN’s Dino Deepens Picheolin Story With New Single ‘Crazy Crazy’

SEVENTEEN’s Dino has dropped a new track titled ‘Crazy Crazy’ on 22 July, expanding his ongoing Picheolin project ahead of the alter ego’s first mini album GILBOARD, which is due for release on 3 August. The SEVENTEEN Dino single is the second pre-release from the project and continues his push into more personal, self-shaped music outside the group’s usual activities.

For context, Dino first signalled this latest phase of Picheolin with ‘Love Sick’ on 15 July. That song leaned into city-pop textures and focused on the messy, lingering emotions that follow a break-up. It opened with a spoken introduction by veteran singer Lee Moon Sae, and, according to the credits, was co-written and co-composed by Dino alongside producer Bumzu, a long-time creative partner for SEVENTEEN. Together, they sketched out a more introspective side to a character fans had previously mostly seen used for light-hearted group content.

SEVENTEEN Dino Turns Picheolin From In-Joke To Fully-Fledged Project

For starters, Picheolin began life as a playful alter ego that SEVENTEEN Dino would slip into during group-related content, a sort of exaggerated persona used for skits and behind-the-scenes clips. With GILBOARD, that character is being blown out into something closer to a full narrative universe and a proper solo vehicle.

The mini album is framed around the Korean concept of ‘heung’, described in the project materials as a mix of excitement, joy and an almost unstoppable sense of energy. On paper, that sounds like party-ready stuff, the sort of high-tempo material Dino regularly performs as part of SEVENTEEN’s performance unit.

Yet ‘Love Sick’, the first taste of the record, pushed against any simple reading of ‘heung’. The track dug into post-break-up vulnerability rather than pure celebration, which suggests the Picheolin story is not just about bright hooks and easy catharsis. It is more interesting than that, frankly, because it leaves room for contradiction, for a character who can revel in chaos and still admit to regret.

‘Crazy Crazy’, now out on streaming platforms, slots in as the second chapter of that story. While detailed production notes for the new song were not included in the initial announcement, its arrival as a pre-release single places it firmly at the centre of how Dino and his team want Picheolin to be understood.

Picheolin Lets SEVENTEEN Dino Flex Beyond The Group

For context, Dino is the youngest member of SEVENTEEN and a core part of the group’s performance unit, the one tasked with some of the most demanding choreography onstage. Within SEVENTEEN, he has already built a reputation as a powerhouse dancer and increasingly confident vocalist. The Picheolin tracks, however, highlight something else: writing and composition credits that push him further into the role of creative architect.

On ‘Love Sick’, those credits were shared with Bumzu, whose name appears on many of SEVENTEEN’s biggest songs. That collaboration, documented in the track’s official listing, effectively placed Dino on the other side of the studio glass. It signalled that Picheolin is not just a branding exercise but a genuine attempt to grow his craft, even if some of that work is still happening under a cartoonish alter-ego mask.

Industry watchers will note that the timing also matters. With GILBOARD billed explicitly as Picheolin’s first mini album, ‘Crazy Crazy’ and ‘Love Sick’ are doing double duty as both singles and proof of concept. They have to convince listeners that Picheolin is worth following as its own lane, not just as ‘Dino being goofy again’.

There is no official chart data or streaming breakdown attached to the announcement yet, so any claims about commercial impact would be premature. What is clear from the release schedule, though, is that Dino and his label are treating this like a proper roll-out: teaser phase, two pre-releases, then the full project.

If that sounds like a lot of build-up for a character that started as an in-joke, that is sort of the point. K-pop is full of alter egos and narrative worlds, but not every idol gets the space to test one out on their own terms. For SEVENTEEN Dino, Picheolin appears to be that sandbox, a place to try new sounds, lean into heung, and still make room for the sad stuff.
