Fans are outraged after “Euphoria” star Sydney Sweeney responds to political critics about her mother’s 60th birthday celebration theme.

The “Everything Sucks!” actress shared photos of Lisa Sweeney’s 60th birthday celebration with a “surprise hoedown” theme on Instagram on Saturday. Her family members are dressed in cowboy costumes in the photos.

While Sydney and the rest of her family appear to be having a good time at the rodeo, it appears that some fans do not share the same sentiments. Critics have pointed out in the comments section of her brother’s separate Instagram post that some of the partygoers’ hats read “Make Sixty Great Again,” a reference to Donald Trump’s campaign slogan. One of the male partygoers was also wearing a “Blue Lives Matter” shirt, according to some critics.

On Sunday, the 24-year-old actress took to Twitter to respond to political critics, claiming that her post was simply a family celebration. Sydney tweeted:

“You guys this is wild. An innocent celebration for my moms milestone 60th birthday has turned into an absurd political statement, which was not the intention. Please stop making assumptions.”

Despite the clarification, critics continue to push the narrative that the Sweeney family is “racist” because of the propaganda in their attire. Fans have been speculating about this claim on Twitter since earlier this year.

Some fans, on the other hand, choose to defend her in the thread replies, implying that the actress may hold different political beliefs than her family.

Despite the negative feedback, the “Euphoria” actress ended her tweet with “Much love to everyone and Happy Birthday Mom!”

Sweeney has not disclosed any political party support or affiliation, but she has expressed her views on “Black Lives Matter” in a tweet in 2020. As of now, no one in her family has commented on the controversy surrounding the themed birthday celebration.
