“Love Island” stars Gemma Owen and Luca Bish face backlash after a recent extravagant girlfriend proposal, and it appears that fans aren’t the only ones who thought something was off about it.
Luca Bish appeared on the eighth season of the reality dating show “Love Island.” On Day 58, he got crowned runner-up alongside Gemma Owen, daughter of pro-football player Michael Owen.
The new couple recently announced their engagement on social media. The plan worked out beautifully, as the poolside venue was decorated with red roses and lit candles.
Gemma shared photos on Instagram of the grand proposal’s highlights. However, a source tells OK that the “extravagant” public display of affection may have made the reality star uncomfortable.
The source told OK:
“She played along as she could see how much effort he’d gone to but it made her uncomfortable. She was never keen on PDAs in the villa and she wished he’d kept it private rather than plaster it all over Instagram. It’s making her nervous about their future.”
Despite her alleged discomfort, Gemma said “yes” to Luca’s grand proposal. According to a second source close to Luca, Gemma was “blown away” by his extravagant gesture.
The source explained:
“Luca isn’t big into social media and couldn’t care less about likes. He doesn’t take himself too seriously. He wanted her to feel special and she couldn’t have seemed happier. She was totally blown away.”
The “Love Island” runner-up shared a video of highlights from their documented milestone on Instagram.
Despite Luca’s plan’s success, fans are perplexed by the public display of affection. Gemma specifically stated during their time on the reality show that she preferred to keep their displays private. On Twitter, some “Love Island” fans shared their thoughts on the new couple.
The eighth season of Love Island began on June 6th and concluded on August 1st. Last season’s winners were Davide Sanclimenti and Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu.
