At the Robert F. Kennedy Ripple of Hope Award Gala on Tuesday, Prince Harry joked about having a “date night” with 1,500 people.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex went to accept their Ripple of Hope Award for their work in racial justice, mental health, and other social-impact initiatives through their Archewell foundation. When Prince Harry took the stage, he said he thought he was on a rare night out with his wife, which they don’t get to do often since having their two children, Archie, three, and Lilibet, one.
Prince Harry joked on stage, per People:
“I actually thought we were just going on a date night, so I find it quite weird that we’re sharing the room with 1,500 people.
We don’t get out much ’cause our kids are so small and young, so this is completely unexpected. It’s nice to share date night with all of you — thank you for coming!”
Page Six also reported on the royal couple’s “date night,” and the outlet spoke with several sources at the gala about the couple. One person commented that Prince Harry appeared to be madly in love with his wife.
When they arrived at the event, he was photographed holding an umbrella for her. He also held her hand as they walked the red carpet together.
The tipster told Page Six:
“Harry looked so in love, and just seems to worship Meghan. He couldn’t stop staring at her all night. She also couldn’t stop smiling.”
Meanwhile, a showbiz insider at the gala said Markle’s attitude toward red-carpet events hasn’t changed. She is said to know how to work with photographers.
The source said:
“Meghan hasn’t changed … She still knows how to work the red carpet, and she made sure to look back at all the photographers. Just like she did during her ‘Suits’ days.”
Markle looked stunning in her white off-the-shoulder Louis Vuitton gown, which was inspired by Givenchy designer Clare Waight Keller’s bateau-style wedding gown she wore at the 2018 royal wedding. She also wore Princess Diana’s aquamarine ring, which she commissioned in 1996 to replace her engagement ring after her divorce from King Charles.
She wore her hair in a low swept bun, accessorized with dangling earrings and a matching clutch, and finished her look with black pumps. In his navy blue suit, Prince Harry looked dapper.
