A video of Iggy Pop performing in front of many fans at a concert recently went viral on Twitter, and many praised him for his energy and confidence despite his age. However, the widely circulated video sparked a debate about fans’ ageism toward Madonna.

Consequence shared a 22-second video on Instagram of the shirtless singer laying down and rolling on stage while performing in front of a crowd.

The caption reads:

“Iggy Pop, still going strong at 75.”

Following this, a fan then quote-retweeted the post to call out other people about ageism and misogny, writing:

“But if this was Madonna y’all would be dragging the hell out of it… hypocrites.”

Many users took to the reply section to express their mixed reactions, with one fan noting that Iggy Pop looks and acts like a 75-year-old while Madonna “is trying to look 15” but she looks like an “alien.”

They added:

“he’s not doing anything age inappropriate he’s laying on the stage … dont get me started on madonna.”

Another user observed that people in general have a bias against female pop artists who are simply performing, writing:

“No matter what generation, those types of people have it out for female artists. It’s a weird phenomenon.”

One fan appeared to agree with the post:

“Totally, they don’t practice ageism with men, only with women,”

As of this writing, neither Iggy Pop nor Madonna had responded.
