In a new trailer for the second installment of their Netflix docuseries, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle opened up about their struggles as working royals.
Prince Harry claimed in a new trailer for the remaining three episodes of “Harry & Meghan” that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were victims of “institutional gaslighting.”
Speaking to the press, the 38-year-old royal expressed his displeasure with the level of press intrusion he believes he and his wife have faced, claiming that they have been treated differently than his older brother and heir to the British throne, Prince William.
In the trailer, Prince Harry claimed, before adding that he and Markle were victims of “institutional gaslighting”:
“They were happy to lie to protect my brother.”
He added:
“They were never willing to tell the truth to protect us.”
The Duke of Sussex also admitted in the teaser that he wonders what would have happened to them if they hadn’t left the palace. It was his decision to leave, he said.
Prince Harry shared:
“I said, ‘We need to get out of here.'”
The trailer then showed footage of Prince Harry on a plane, with the caption:
“We are on the freedom flight.”
Markle also discussed how they were treated after they decided to leave royal duties in 2020, particularly in terms of security.
She said in the clip:
“Our security was being pulled. Everyone in the world knew where we were.”
Markle continued:
“I wasn’t being thrown to the wolves. I was being fed to the wolves.”
The trailer ended with a shot of the royal couple enjoying their new life in California with their two children, Archie, 3, and Lilibet Diana, 1.
As footage of them enjoying the beach with their children was shown on the screen, Prince Harry stated:
“To move to the next chapter you’ve got to finish the first chapter. I’ve always felt as though this was a fight worth fighting for.”
Markle added:
“It gave us a chance to create that home we had always wanted.”
After the first volume of their docuseries aired last week, several British former politicians and authors urged Prince Harry and Markle to skip King Charles’ coronation next year due to their alleged criticism of the monarchy.
Iain Duncan Smith, the former Conservative leader, told The Mail on Sunday:
“If they dislike the royal family so much why would they attend the coronation?”
David Mellor, a Tory veteran, said:
“They shouldn’t come to the coronation. They categorically shouldn’t come. They make money out of selling their family down the river. I think it should be made clear that the British people do not want them there.”
The first three episodes of “Harry & Meghan” are now available on Netflix. Three new episodes will be released on Thursday.
