Kim Kardashian said she is “hanging on by a thread” to keep her children from learning about their father Kanye West’s controversial behavior.
In a new interview, the 42-year-old “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” alum sobbed candidly about her divorce from the “Donda” artist, who now goes by Ye, and her struggles co-parenting their four children: North, 9, Saint, 7, Chicago, 4, and Psalm, 3.
Kardashian stated in a Monday episode of the “Angie Martinez IRL” podcast:
“I definitely protected him, and I still will in the eyes of my kids. For my kids. So, in my home, my kids don’t know anything that goes on [in] the outside world.”
She admitted she is “hanging on by a thread,” but she will continue to protect her children from their father’s controversial behavior, including the rapper’s recent antisemitic remarks, “for as long as I can.”
Kardashian claims her children “don’t know anything” about West’s controversies because she protects what they see online and pretends nothing is wrong — something she admits is a full-time job.
The Hulu personality said:
“It is worth it because I think that, of course, I want to disassociate in specific thoughts and things being said because that is not me. But at the same time in my home I could be going through something, but if we are riding to school and they want to listen to their dad’s music — no matter what we are going through — I have to have that smile on my face and blast his music and sing along with my kids. [I can] act like nothing is wrong and as soon as I drop them off, I can have a good cry.”
During the interview, Kardashian became emotional and burst into tears while discussing how her relationship with her late father, Robert Kardashian, influenced her decision regarding her children and West.
She explained:
“I had the best dad. I don’t want to get emotional, but it’s just been a day for me. It is hard. Coparenting is really f—king hard. I had the best dad and the best experiences, and that is all I want for my kids. As long as they can have that, that is what I want for them.”
Kardashian also stated that as long as her children are unaware of their father’s controversies, she will not bring them up because she believes they are too young to deal with them.
The “Kardashians” star explained:
“That is real, heavy, grownup s—t that they are not ready to deal with. When they are, we will have those conversations. One day my kids will thank me for not sitting here and bashing their dad. I could.”
Kardashian’s new interview comes just weeks after she and West reached a divorce settlement. The rapper will pay the reality star $200,000 in child support each month.
According to the settlement, the former couple will have joint custody of their children and neither will pay the other spousal support. The two will split the costs of the children’s security and education equally.
