An active duty US Air Force major was arrested on the steps of the Capitol on Wednesday while demonstrating for the immediate impeachment of President Trump.
The news came after Major Jason Watson attended an impeachment press conference led by the Removal Coalition. Representative Al Green initially accompanied the major. When the Texas Democrat departed, Capitol Police officers told Watson to stop his demonstration or face arrest.
Active Duty Major Arrested At The Capitol
A Capitol Police spokesperson stated that Watson refused lawful orders and was arrested for crowding, obstructing, and incommoding.
The department noted that plenty of other spots on Capitol grounds allow demonstrations. Demonstrating on the Capitol steps is illegal unless the individual is with a member of Congress.
Officer Risks Military Career And Retirement Pension
Watson enlisted in the Air Force in 2005. He remains on active duty status but is on leave from his post as a logistics readiness officer in Poland.
Removal Coalition founder Jessica Denson stated that Watson reached out to her organisation in February. She noted that by calling for impeachment, Watson is risking his military career, pension, and potential prosecution to stand by his constitutional oath.
Denson described his actions as ‘the example of sacrifice that members of Congress need to see and confront.’ She added that Congress must confront the betrayal of every person in uniform who has defended American rights over the past 250 years.
Major Outlines Impeachable Offences Against President Trump
Watson used the press conference to accuse the president of committing innumerable impeachable offences. He claimed the executive branch has spent 18 months violating the Constitution with impunity. CeleBeat cannot independently verify these claims, so take everything lightly.
The major alleged the president violated the War Powers Act by ordering military strikes against Iran and Venezuela without congressional approval. He stated these strikes resulted in 13 service member deaths and hundreds of injuries.

Watson also said the president illegally bypassed congressional spending power to give Elon Musk sweeping authority. He argued that granting an unelected mega donor unrestricted access to government databases exposed sensitive data. Watson stated this caused the illegal termination of federal civil servants and crippled disaster preparedness. He claimed an abrupt cessation of US aid killed hundreds of thousands of impoverished people worldwide.
Additional accusations included sponsoring violence against Americans exercising their First Amendment rights and denying due process to deported immigrants. The major accused the president of levying illegal tariffs, extorting settlements from private institutions, trading pardons for donations, and weaponising the Department of Justice against political adversaries. Watson described the constitutional impeachment process as the best pathway to restore fidelity.
Congressman Al Green Pushes Trump Impeachment Vote
Green did not speak at the press conference but stood by as Denson and Watson complimented him. Watson noted he knows next to nothing about Green and his policies. However, the major described Green as the only member of Congress willing to force an impeachment vote.
The House previously voted 237 to 140 to kill an impeachment resolution from Green. All Republicans and 23 Democrats voted to prevent an up or down vote. More than half of the Democratic Caucus sided with Green in opposition to killing the measure.
Green could trigger another impeachment vote at any time Congress is in session. He may be more incentivised to do so after losing his primary earlier this year. The congressman stated last week that the president refusing to sign a bipartisan housing bill provides ammunition for the countdown to impeachment.
Watson stated that if Congress followed the example set by Green, they could remove the entire Trump administration. He added that lawmakers must be persuaded through unrelenting civil resistance to honour their oaths.
