Vice President JD Vance is currently facing widespread condemnation after making a derogatory, body-shaming comment aimed at conservative commentator Marc Thiessen on X this week. The controversy erupted when the 42 year old vice president interjected himself into a social media debate regarding the affordability of groceries. Instead of addressing concerns about rising food costs, Vance targeted the physical weight of his fellow pundit. The move drew immediate backlash from observers who felt the JD Vance body-shaming attack was entirely unwarranted for a sitting official.

The news came after a broader online discussion about the current economy. Conservative commentator Matt Walsh initially sparked the conversation by suggesting elected officials need to refocus their efforts on domestic policy, specifically noting that grocery prices remain stubbornly high. Turning Point USA spokesman Andrew Kolvet echoed the sentiment. He claimed a college student recently complained to him that a standard burrito should never cost twenty dollars. Kolvet argued that while some economic strain is a hangover from previous inflation, the daily lived experience is that basic necessities simply cost too much.

Thiessen was entirely unsympathetic to the plight of the hypothetical student. The Washington Post columnist responded with a dismissive retort, telling the original posters to cry him a river. He pointed out that burritos in college cafeterias are already included in standard meal plans.

That specific exchange is where the vice president decided to enter the fray. Offering a surprisingly brutal diss, Vance chose to forgo any substantive discussion about economic policy.

“I’m surprised to hear Mark say this. If you’ve ever met him in person, it’s quite obvious the man has never missed a burrito,” Vance wrote.

JD Vance Body-Shaming Tactics Echo Familiar Strategies

By completely dodging a nuanced conversation about fiscal policy, people quickly noticed that Vance was following a very familiar script. Critics immediately labeled the move a disgusting attempt at public humiliation that felt ripped straight out of the playbook typically utilized by his boss. (Does the electorate actually want their elected officials acting like high school bullies over a burrito debate?)

Social media users were swift and unforgiving. One exasperated individual noted that the vice president making crude fat jokes illustrates exactly how far political discourse has fallen. Another observer stated they did not think the vice president of the United States should ever behave in such a manner.

A third user offered a slightly more detailed critique. They told Vance that the tactic was not the right way to handle criticism and that he just looked like he was desperately trying to mimic Donald Trump. The user added that the effort came off as foolish, suggesting the vice president should perhaps get off his phone and try to actually do something about the crippling cost of everyday items for the constituents he left behind in Ohio.

The Hypocrisy Of The JD Vance Body-Shaming Controversy

The ridicule directed at Thiessen only led to a massive wave of personal attacks bouncing right back against the vice president. The reply section was immediately filled with people calling Vance out for his own physical appearance. Users dug up throwback photos from when the politician was younger and shared images from his time in the military. Celebeat cannot independently verify all these social media claims, so take everything lightly.

The sheer volume of retaliatory mudslinging was genuinely wild to witness. It is a mad situation when political discourse devolves into trading playground insults. One user aggressively questioned whether Vance had the right to shame anyone else, telling the vice president to stop projecting his insecurities and admit his political ascension had not fixed his grievances.

Another former supporter expressed deep disappointment regarding the current trajectory of the administration. They noted they used to be excited about Vance potentially bringing his beautiful family into the White House. However, they lamented that his team now constantly tries to insult fellow Republicans.

Other people simply pleaded with the national leader to focus on the actual affordability crisis. One frustrated voter called the exchange gross but admitted they would rather see Vance enter a debate about burritos than be anywhere near geopolitical strategy.

Another fan of the administration noted that the original point regarding high grocery prices was correct. They pointed out that costs for gas, taxes, insurance, and homes are still kicking the collective behinds of the working class. They warned that if the administration does not fix the economy, conservatives are going to lose interest and simply not show up during the next election.
