Usher will not be participating in any R&B VERZUZ battles in the near future, as he stated in a recent interview that he does not want to.
Since the rap battle began in the last few years, there has been a lot of speculation about an R&B VERZUZ.
Fans have been putting Usher and Chris Brown together to relive the nostalgia of when the two were still actively ruling the charts in the 2010s.
Usher had other plans than Chris Brown’s for fan service.
He reiterated his reasons for not wanting a VERZUZ battle in a recent episode of the “People Every Day” podcast.
Usher, proud and outspoken, claims that a VERZUZ battle could not handle all of his songs if one were to attend one of his concerts.
Usher is currently scheduled to perform at the Park MGM Arena this week as part of his Las Vegas residency.
He told the publication:
“It’s like, I could do it by myself. But I don’t wanna do that. That’s not the purpose of Verzuz, me versus me. But I think it’s great. It’s great to celebrate music. But the appreciation of it starts with understanding what it is and how long has it taken to do this legacy.”
This was not Usher’s first time putting a stop to a VERZUZ Battle.
In an E! In a recent news video, the “DJ Got Us Falling in Love Again” hitmaker stated that an R&B Mega battle with him, Chris Brown, and even Trey Songz would not take place. Noting that people may not be ready for that just yet, an onstage reunion is likely.
Another R&B battle could work if Chris Brown and Trey Songz were involved, but including the “King of R&B” would be a long shot.
Usher told PEOPLE Magazine:
“I’m a different animal, man. I’m cut from a way different cloth man. And when you put those songs on, I’m telling you, I don’t think anybody in the world would want smoke with them songs.”
Usher is set to take over the Park MGM beginning this month until July 2023 for his “My Way: The Las Vegas Residency.” For more information and ticketing information, fans can visit this website.
