Kelly Clarkson hasn’t released any new music in quite some time, which is understandable given that she’s been dealing with her divorce and talk show.

Hold on tight because she recently revealed to Variety that she had been back in the studio for some time now, writing and recording songs.

According to their report, the upcoming album has been in the works for two years and was inspired by her recent divorce from ex-husband Brandon Blackstock.

She revealed that she wrote about 25 songs a week and that most of them would appear on the album.

She explained:

“Then I told my label, ‘I can’t talk about this until I’ve gone through it,’ and it’s just taken some time to do that.”

The 40-year-old singer revealed that she had not been writing much music due to her divorce, being a single mother, and her career.

She stated:

“But then the whole divorce thing happened, and I needed to write it. And then I didn’t know if I was going to release it, because you can be very angry in that state of mind.”

Clarkson filed for divorce in June 2020, citing irreconcilable differences, after seven years of marriage. The “Stronger” singer expressed her hope that the album will help people cope with their struggles, noting that her music has previously inspired others.

She stated:

“I’m through it now, but there is somebody else who is in it, and that’s a hard place to be, especially if you feel alone. It’s a hard thing to describe, it’s a “[…] It’s a hard thing to go through publicly, [and] it’s hard with kids. This record, I think I wrote this for a reason.

Not just for me, but maybe someone else can benefit from it.”

Clarkson is currently preoccupied with her career and her children, over whom she has primary custody.

According to Cinema Blend, the singer shared that she took comfort in music and friends:

“I think it’s therapeutic, but like your female friendships. I feel like that has really helped me.”

Clarkson described her upcoming album as an “important album,” adding that she worked on it in therapy.

“I have a hard time vocalizing what I’m feeling sometimes, so music is helpful for me. It’s just been really healing.”

For the time being, fans will have to wait for the album, which is scheduled to be released in 2023. Clarkson also promised a tour but said she would have to work around her hectic schedule to make it happen.

She said that performing the songs live would be “therapeutic” for her:

“I know there are other guys and girls out there that have been through this kind of breakup who are going to need to scream at the top of their lungs, you can come and join me.”
