Kanye West confuses Donda Academy enrollees – Is the school shut down or open?

Kanye West’s Donda Academy reopened its doors just hours after it announced its closure and this time “with a vengeance.”

Donda parents and students received an email around midnight on Wednesday.

that read:

“Join us tomorrow morning in worship for the return of Donda Academy. With the help of our parents and community, we are back and returning with a vengeance! The children of Donda are going to change the world. Apologies for the late email! See you bright and early!”

Given that an email announcing the shutdown was sent to Donda students nearly four hours prior, this must have come as a surprise.

This email stated:

“At the discretion of our Founder, Donda Academy will close for the remainder of the 2022-2023 school year effective immediately … THERE IS NO SCHOOL TOMORROW.”

It’s unclear why there’s a sudden, quick change. A small Christian school tucked away in a conservative Los Angeles suburb offers an unaccredited education that the proprietor claims can “really make your children into geniuses.”

Kanye West, also known as Ye, is 45 years old and founded Donda Academy in November 2021, despite claiming in September that “reading is like eating Brussels sprouts.”

West said on Good Morning America last month that the school’s directors, some of whom have limited educational backgrounds, could turn children into “geniuses,” though he admits that he does not enroll his own children.

Since the school’s inception in the secluded community of Simi Valley, the rapper and designer have only responded to a few media inquiries about the school, which requires a signed NDA to attend. He did, however, tell GMA that the academy provides students with “practical tools they’ll need in a world after the invention of the iPhone.” West reported that 82 students have now enrolled.

Although the school was initially registered with the state of California as a kindergarten through the eighth-grade academy, it now serves pre-K through 12th-grade students in honor of West’s late mother, Donda West. She spent decades teaching English at Chicago State University.

According to their website, before beginning their studies in English, mathematics, and science, students attend daily school-wide worship sessions led by teachers. After lunch, which Slam Magazine claims is prepared regularly by Ye’s personal chef, students can choose from various “enrichment” classes, including filmmaking, choir singing, and even parkour.

Kanye West faces backlash after making anti-Semitic remarks in interviews and on social media. Adidas and Balenciaga have cut ties with the controversial rapper following his “hateful and dangerous” comments.

Many of his famous contemporaries have spoken out against him. West’s most recent incident occurred when he and conservative commentator Candace Owens wore “White Lives Matter” t-shirts to Paris Fashion Week. Following an online backlash, West (now legally known as Ye) began posting antisemitic conspiracy theories on Instagram, including an allegation that Jews influenced rapper Diddy. Following the termination of his account, West threatened to inflict “death con 3 on Jewish people.”
