The 2023 Grammy Nominations are already out, and they may be the most competitive batch yet!
Most of the early predictions of many publications have come true, including the rematch between Beyonce and Adele in the Album of the Year category.
However, many people on Twitter have pointed out that Nicki Minaj’s songs have received no nominations from The Recording Academy.
To many fans’ dismay, her record-breaking and setting song, “Super Freaky Girl,” did not even receive a nomination.
Fans are outraged by the omission, given that “Super Freaky Girl” was one of the most popular songs released this year. The song debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts and has remained in the Top 10 for 10 weeks in a row, marking her longest stay in the Top 10 of her career.
On its first day, it broke the streaming and online purchase records for a rap song by a female solo artist on Spotify and iTunes.
Fans point out that Minaj has been evading The Recording Academy since her controversial performance at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards in 2012.
Since then, Nicki Minaj has become one of the biggest names in the music industry, having been nominated numerous times but failing to win any awards due to what fans described as a “favoritism” problem.
Earlier this year, she expressed displeasure after The Hollywood Reporter reported that her song “Super Freaky Girl” was removed from the rap categories after The Recording Academy’s rap committee deemed it sounded more like a pop record.
In response, Nicki stated on Twitter that if “Super Freaky Girl,” which is widely classified as a rap song, is removed from the rap category, Latto’s “Big Energy” should be reclassified because it sonically sounds the same.
This infuriated Latto, a known Nicki Minaj fan, resulting in a heated Twitter exchange.
Nicki Minaj is currently trending on Twitter, with over 12,000 tweets.
A fan said:
“Sick of Nicki getting snubbed by the Grammys she’s literally dominated the rap game for 15 years but never the less she’s the GOAT #NickiMinaj.”
Another posted:
“This @NICKIMINAJ snubb over Glorilla when #NickiMinaj spent 10 weeks consecutively at #1 on Billboard Hot Rap Songs chart. The #GRAMMYs are a joke.”
Another pointed out:
“Someone who’s a major playing in the music industry hates #NickiMinaj and from this 2022 and all Grammy nominations says it all. When she’s speaking on it, ppl need to shut the F up because is that serious and we all are seeing it in real time. #TheGrammyisragged.”
