JoJo Siwa discussed how Elton John changed her life forever.

Siwa took her time during John’s final tour to shower her friend with heartfelt messages and compliments after the music icon became a part of her life. She told E! News in a new interview at the Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium concert that when she came out, the singer called her.

According to the 19-year-old singer, she first met John at one of his concerts when she was 15. That 45-minute conversation is said to have changed her life.

She did not say what they discussed then, but Siwa said she had another heartfelt conversation with him after she came out in January 2021.

Siwa claims that the “Rocket Man” hitmaker called her to express his support as she accepted her identity. John also sent her a video congratulating her on coming out.

John said in the video, as quoted by PEOPLE:

“At 17, you were able to do something that took people of my generation decades to do. Not only are you living your truth, you’re a shining example to young people the world over and their families, by showing that love is love and people are people and that is that.”

John also complimented her on her fantastic style, which shocked and excited her.

Siwa then posted the video to her Instagram account, revealing that she got it from the man she had looked up to for years. She said that John and other LGBTQ celebrities helped her discover and accept her identity.

The then-17-year-old YouTuber revealed her sexual orientation in a TikTok video in which she danced to Lady Gaga’s 2011 hit song “Born This Way.” The song has been dubbed an LGBTQ anthem.

The video received millions of views and thousands of comments from celebrities and fans almost immediately. Bretman Rock, James Charles, and Nikkie de Jager were among those who praised and congratulated her.

Siwa also received a shirt with the words “Best. Gay. Cousin. Ever” from her cousin.

Siwa told PEOPLE a few months after coming out that being able to introduce her true self to the world made her the happiest human alive. Since then, she has been openly dating women, including Kylie Prew.
