Many fans have been praising the band for being political and responding to social issues since the release of their second single from their highly anticipated album “This is Why” earlier this week; however, frontwoman Hayley Williams admitted that the group was initially nervous about the release because they didn’t know how the public would react.

In a recent interview, the singer expressed concern about what people would think of their version of “crying like fake news.”

Williams explained that the song isn’t literal at all, but rather a balance between “apathy and righteousness rage” that motivates people to take action.

She added:

“And I think in between there is wherever your own mental boundary is to protect your own energy. And that’s just a battle that everyone’s going to have to figure out on their own what that looks like.”

Further explaining their latest single, the singer stated that they are not typically a “political band,” and their latest release is not primarily political, but she realized that from where she comes, they are not always positioned to view the true side of life.

The song is about wanting to do good, and as a band with a large platform, Williams questioned the issues that have been going on, saying, “How can you ignore it? How can you not say anything?”

According to the singer, it all started with a tornado in Nashville and came the global pandemic. The George Floyd incident occurred amid a global health crisis, and they participated in protests and marches.

Because there have been so many problems around them, Paramore believes they are experiencing them from “whatever vantage point” they are at and must speak out about the issues.

Today, the vocalist hopes the lyrics they have written for the song are personal enough for the public to understand.

According to early reports, the band released the official music video for “The News,” which many fans found terrifying due to the visuals’ focus on horror.

In a statement, the frontwoman stated that this was one of the songs that came together quickly and that they were excited from the start.
