The sequel to “SOUR” is almost finished!
Olivia Rodrigo celebrated the second anniversary of her breakout single, “driver’s license,” with a sweet treat and a thank you message on Instagram.
Rodrigo posted a video of herself, presumably singing one of her new songs:
“Working on so many new songs I’m excited to show u. Thank u for everything.”
Fans were ecstatic about the new teaser, as well as the new music she will release this year.
A fan said:
“one thing about my sister. she has a piano and a dream. and she’s gon pick one chord to play tf out of. and that’s bc she’s mother.”
“THE QUEEN OF BROKEN HEARTS IS COMING BACK SOOOOOOON,”
“2023 IS SETTING UP TO EAT FOR MUSIC OMG,”
Another user wondered:
“Omg Olivia is coming and I’m excited for it. I wonder what is her next era after SOUR,”
Rodrigo’s debut album, “SOUR,” was released in May 2021, months after her single “driver’s license” dominated the airwaves, streaming platforms, and social media.
With 295,000 album-equivalent units, the album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. It was announced in July 2022 that the project had the longest-running debut album in the genre-blending chart top 10 of the twenty-first century, with a 52-week run that surpassed Lady Gaga’s “The Fame.”
Rodrigo also won three Grammys for Best New Artist, Best Pop Vocal Album, and Best Pop Solo Performance with “driver’s license.”
However, not everyone is thrilled with her new teaser, which suggests that the album will most likely contain the same songs she has previously released.
A user said:
“Why does she need to make new music? Just listen to her old music it all sounds the same anyway,”
“are we sure? that’s the same chord over 4 bars…ik that a single insta story isn’t gonna have a whole song but y’all getting hyped for that,”
“let’s just hope it’s not as mid as the ones from sour.”
Some user quipped:
“This news just tell us Taylor Swift will be release an old song.”
In the past few months, Olivia teased numerous times that she is already making significant developments on her new album. She is excited about “all of the new things and new music that 2023 will bring”.
