Meghan Markle is seeking guidance in Hollywood and, according to a source quoted by US magazine In Touch Weekly, the Duchess of Sussex has set her sights on Sarah Jessica Parker as the mentor who could help shape her next chapter in the industry.
Meghan, 44, has been widely reported to be exploring an acting comeback after years away from scripted television, following her departure from Suits and, later, from full-time royal duties in the UK. Her post-royal career has largely revolved around streaming deals, lifestyle projects and her now‑ended Archetypes podcast, but sustained on‑screen momentum has proved harder to pin down. Into that uncertainty, some insiders are now suggesting she wants an established Hollywood figure to help plan her ‘next big moves’.
The unnamed source told In Touch that Meghan ‘needs the wisdom and experience that SJP has in spades’ and warned, in blunt terms, that ‘Meghan is not going to be able to sustain her Hollywood-adjacent profile without it’. The choice of words is striking. For a woman who has headlined a successful cable drama and married into one of the most scrutinised institutions on Earth, being described as merely ‘Hollywood-adjacent’ will sting.
Still, the logic is obvious enough. Parker, 61, has spent more than four decades working in film and television, fronted one of the defining series of the late 1990s and early 2000s, and held on to that fame long after most contemporaries slid quietly down the call sheet. If you were drawing up a list of people who understand how to survive the industry’s brutal churn, she would be near the top.
Meghan Markle’s Quiet Sarah Jessica Parker Connection
To recall, Meghan publicly signalled her admiration for Parker’s work during a 2022 episode of Archetypes. While interviewing Sex and the City creator Candace Bushnell, she described the show’s central character Carrie Bradshaw as ‘iconic’, according to coverage in the Daily Mail. It was a small remark, but in hindsight it reads a bit like foreshadowing.
In Touch reports that Parker, who is set to appear in Hocus Pocus 3, formally said goodbye to Carrie Bradshaw last August, ending a 27‑year run with the character. That apparent closing of one door has given rise to speculation that she may be more open to advisory or behind‑the‑scenes roles, including the sort of informal mentorship Meghan is said to be seeking.
‘It’s all about timing,’ the source told the magazine. ‘SJP is at a point in her career where she has nothing to prove except her ability to nurture the next generation. She’s ready to pass on the knowledge that she has accumulated from all of her years in the entertainment business.’
There is, as yet, no public comment from Parker or her representatives about any approach from Meghan. IBTimes UK cannot independently verify these claims, so take everything lightly.
What does seem clear is that the two women are not total strangers moving in separate orbits. Fashion title Hello! Fashion has previously noted that both have been clients of celebrity hairstylist Serge Normant, who has long worked with A‑list actors and, in Meghan’s case, styled her for some of the most photographed moments of her life. Hollywood can be smaller than it looks from the outside. A shared hairdresser can be surprisingly powerful connective tissue.
According to the same In Touch source, ‘Meghan and SJP have had some limited communications through their mutual friends.’ The next goal, they suggested, is ‘a true meeting of the minds: sitting down and figuring out Meghan’s next big moves as a team’.
That is the fantasy scenario, at least. Whether it translates into an actual working relationship is another matter.
Can Sarah Jessica Parker Really ‘Save’ Meghan Markle’s Career?
The suggestion that Meghan Markle is ‘begging’ Sarah Jessica Parker to save her career, as some headlines have framed it, says as much about how the duchess is perceived as it does about her actual prospects.
On one level, the idea she cannot ‘sustain’ her profile without a more seasoned guide carries an edge of cruelty. Meghan is not an untested newcomer. Before marrying Prince Harry she worked steadily, if not spectacularly, for years. Suits ran for nine seasons and still performs well in streaming rankings. Her name recognition is off the charts.
On another level, though, the harshness of the language speaks to a real truth about the modern celebrity economy. Streaming has eaten traditional TV, the film business is anxious and risk‑averse, and the churn of content is mad. Even big names find it harder than ever to stay relevant for long without shrewd strategy and the right allies.
Parker is a case study in long‑term brand management. She has moved between acting, producing and fashion, held on to core audience affection and, crucially, controlled the narrative more often than not. For someone like Meghan, who has seen her narrative repeatedly wrestled away by tabloids, courtiers and commentators, that must look appealing.
The question is whether Parker, who has spent much of her career carefully managing her own privacy and reputation, would want to step directly into the storm that follows the Duchess of Sussex. Becoming mentor to a woman who has become a proxy battle in culture‑war arguments about monarchy, race and feminism is not a low‑risk move.
None of this appears in In Touch’s tidy framing, of course. The magazine’s source paints the potential partnership as almost inevitable, driven by timing and mutual benefit. Real life is rarely that neat. There is no indication of a signed deal, a formal agreement or anything beyond those ‘limited communications’ and the shared salon chair history.
What the rumour does reveal is the enduring fascination, especially in US celebrity media, with Meghan’s supposed search for validation inside Hollywood. She is either accused of leveraging royal status to chase fame, or portrayed as flailing without the right insider touch. Often both, on alternate days. The truth is probably far more boring: a mid‑career actor with a giant profile trying to work out what she actually wants to do next, and who might help her not mess it up.
For now, Sarah Jessica Parker remains exactly what she has been for years, a highly respected Hollywood veteran with options. Meghan Markle remains what she has also been for years, a lightning rod. If they do sit down to plan those ‘next big moves’, it will not just be a starry coffee meeting. It will be two very different experiences of fame, and two very different playbooks, meeting in the same room. That is where the really interesting stuff would start.
