British singer Dominic Harrison, professionally known as Yungblud, joined alternative rock icons the Smashing Pumpkins on stage in Chicago on July 31 for a surprise duet during the band’s headline performance at Lollapalooza 2026, later describing the moment to the crowd as a dream come true.

For context, the unannounced collaboration unfolded on the second night of the four-day music festival in Grant Park, marking a massive homecoming for the Chicago-bred band. The Smashing Pumpkins had not performed at Lollapalooza since the event established its permanent site in Grant Park back in 2005, having previously featured in the touring 1994 edition. The 17-song set opened with heavy hits including ‘1979’, ‘Bullet With Butterfly Wings’, and ‘Today’, setting a nostalgic tone before bringing out surprise guest vocalists.

Yungblud Lollapalooza 2026 Collaboration Features Deep Cut From Siamese Dream

Harrison took the stage alongside frontman Billy Corgan to perform ‘Luna’, the delicate closing track from the band’s acclaimed 1993 album Siamese Dream. Speaking directly into the microphone moments after the song concluded, the Doncaster-born artist was unable to hide his excitement, shouting to the audience that sharing the stage with the legendary group was a wild dream come true. Harrison has frequently spoken about the massive influence of 1990s alternative rock on his music, and his performance on a deep album cut rather than a mainstream radio single highlighted his genuine reverence for the record.

The cameo was one of three secret appearances during the headlining show, none of which had been listed on the official festival line-up beforehand. Pop star Olivia Rodrigo joined Corgan on acoustic guitar for ‘Thirty-Three’, taken from the 1995 album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, while former bassist Melissa Auf der Maur rejoined the group to close out the night on ‘The Everlasting Gaze’. Unlike Rodrigo, who was spotted arriving at O’Hare International Airport the day before the gig, Harrison’s presence on stage came as a total shock to the audience.

Streaming Details And Rain Party Highlight Yungblud Lollapalooza 2026 Debut

Harrison was already in Grant Park as an official performer in his own right for the 2026 festival, which ran through August 2. His scheduled appearance on the official livestream, broadcast through a joint partnership on Hulu and Disney+, ensured he was already present on site when Corgan invited him to join the evening set.

The atmosphere inside the park turned even more dramatic later in the performance when a sudden burst of rain poured over the crowd during ‘Tonight, Tonight’. Corgan immediately embraced the unexpected weather, telling the soaked audience from the stage that they had just been given a rain disco party. The brief downpour was confined to that specific section of the performance, adding to the chaotic energy of the night (and honestly, what could be more fitting for nineties alternative rock than singing through a torrential summer storm?).

The hometown headline slot served as a significant legacy showcase for the Smashing Pumpkins, bridging generations by pairing the veteran rockers with two prominent young artists. Harrison’s spontaneous reaction on a live microphone offered fans a clear glimpse into what the invitation meant to the young musician.

Representatives for both Harrison and the Smashing Pumpkins had not commented on the collaboration as of publication. Neither the festival nor the band has confirmed whether the live performance will receive an official audio release. IBTimes UK cannot independently verify whether further collaborations are planned between the artists, so everything should be taken with a grain of salt until official management statements are released.
