Prince Harry has revealed text messages exchanged between his wife Meghan Markle and sister-in-law Kate Middleton about flower girl dresses, which caused the Duchess of Sussex to cry ahead of their 2018 royal wedding.
The Duke of Sussex wrote in his new book, “Spare,” that Middleton messaged Markle to complain about her daughter Princess Charlotte’s flower girl dress not fitting properly, but found the then-bride-to-response be’s inadequate.
According to Page Six, Prince Harry recalled the Princess of Wales allegedly texting his then-fiancée about the dresses, which were made from measurements before a fitting:
“Charlotte’s dress is too big, too long, too baggy. She cried when she tried it on a home,”
Markle then allegedly texted back:
“Right, and I told you the tailor has been standing by since 8am. Here. At KP. Can you take Charlotte to have it altered, as the other mums are doing?”
Rather than agreeing to have her daughter’s gown altered, Middleton allegedly insisted on having “all the dresses remade” and claimed she discussed the issue with her wedding designer, who agreed with her.
The former “Suits” star allegedly asked Middleton if she was aware of the drama surrounding her father, Thomas Markle Sr., in an attempt to make the royal understand her stress.
Prince Harry wrote:
“Meg asked if Kate was aware of what was going on right now. With her father. Kate said she was well aware, but the dresses. And the wedding is in four days!”
Markle reportedly replied:
“Yes, Kate, I know…”
Prince Harry claimed that his sister-in-law had cheated on him “There were issues with Meg’s wedding planning. What about throwing a page boy party? It switched back and forth.”
Markle reportedly responded:
“I’m not sure what else to say. If the dress doesn’t fit then please take Charlotte to see Ajay. He’s been waiting all day.”
Middleton allegedly replied:
“Fine.”
Following her exchange with Princess Kate, Prince Harry discovered his wife “sobbing on the floor” of their home.
The Duchess of Sussex addressed the incident in a 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey. “The reverse happened,” Markle said of tabloid claims that she made Middleton cry in the run-up to her 2018 wedding.
Markle admitted that there was a misunderstanding regarding the flower girl dresses and that her argument with Middleton “made me cry and really hurt my feelings.” She also claimed that the Princess of Wales was “upset about something” that day and later apologized and brought flowers and a note to her.
During their flower girl dresses feud, Markle told Middleton, who was pregnant with her third child with Prince William at the time, that she “must have baby brain because of her hormones,” according to Prince Harry’s book.
Markle was reportedly chastised for her remark and told she wasn’t close enough to the future queen consort to make such a remark. The “Horrible Bosses” star allegedly became “offended” and burst into tears.
Buckingham Palace refused to comment on the allegations in Prince Harry’s book.
“Spare” will be available on Tuesday.
