After five years of marriage, married musicians Morgan Evans and Kelsea Ballerini have announced their divorce via Instagram.

The “I Quit Drinking” singer announced the split on her Instagram stories:

“Friends, I’ve always tried my best to share my life with you in a real and vulnerable way, while also protecting layers of my personal life as they unfold. This is now public record so I wanted you to hear from me directly that I am going through a divorce.”

Ballerini went on to say that it was a “deeply difficult decision” but that it marked the end of their “journey of love, growth, and effort.”

According to E! News, the “Half Of My Hometown” singer filed for divorce on August 26 due to “irreconcilable differences.”

Evans, meanwhile, announced the divorce on Instagram. He stated:

“I am very sad to confirm that after almost 5 years of marriage, Kelsea and I are parting ways. […] I wish it were otherwise, but sadly it is not.”

The two first met in March 2016 at the CMC Awards in Evan’s home country of Australia. They had co-hosted the event and quickly became involved in a whirlwind romance.

They married in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, in December of the following year.
During their appearance at the CMT Awards in 2019, the 28-year-old songstress described her husband as “a supportive, wonderful human” to Entertainment Tonight.

Ballerini previously revealed to People Magazine that she and Evans attend couples therapy.

Her parents’ divorce caused her to swear off marriage at first, but conversations and discussions with her parents made her realize the beauty of the union.

She told People Magazine:

“As I got older, I was able to have conversations with them both about their marriage, [and] pre-divorce and realized that there was beauty there, there was love there at some point. That helped me realize that I could find that.”

Things turned for the worse when a source told People Magazine that the couple had been working on their marriage for quite some time. The source stated:

“Prior to this they had separated privately once before and have been in therapy for several years. They gave it their best go but unfortunately arrived at the decision to formally separate.”

Despite their best efforts, the two have decided to call it quits, and they are now both preoccupied with their music careers.
