Having Diana Ross as a mother-in-law must be “nerve-wracking,” especially if you’re a singer yourself. Just ask Ashlee Simpson, who shared her experience playing music for the vocal icon.
During an appearance on the “Jennifer Hudson Show,” the “Pieces of Me” singer discussed her experience performing music for Ross:
“I think it’s nerve-wracking at first playing music for anyone when it’s new, but definitely her.”
She continued:
“You’re like, ‘Oh, please like it.’ Definitely butterflies.”
However, Ross isn’t as scary as she had initially thought.
In fact, the singer of “I’m Coming Out” is more than welcoming and helpful.
“But she’s such a wonderful mother-in-law. She’s very encouraging, and she definitely helped us on the album too.”
Simpson married Ross’ son Evan Ross in 2014, and the couple has been married for eight and a half years.
Their strong bond has been evident not only through social media posts of their happy family, but also through their reality show “Ashlee + Evan.”
Despite the fact that her last studio album, “Bittersweet World,” was released in 2008, Simpson has expressed interest in returning to the music scene.
She told Hudson:
“I keep saying, ‘I’m coming out with an album, I’m coming out with an album,’ and now I have to. But then I keep having babies!”
The singer has two children with Ross, Ziggy, and Jagger, as well as a son with her ex-husband from Fall Out Boy, Pete Wentz.
Simpson also shared her love story with Ross, with whom she had been friends for a long time before they started dating.
She said:
“I was like, ‘Oh my God, Mom, I made out with that guy!’ His pick-up line was that he thought it was so sexy that I was a mom.”
“And now it’s like, he’s my soulmate, he’s my best friend. It just doesn’t get better.”
According to US Weekly, Simpson was first publicly seen with Ross in 2013, but their relationship did not begin until much later in their relationship.
Ross was already set on marrying Simpson before they even got engaged:
“I’m so in love and we’ve got amazing things going on. And we inspire each other. So it’s cool. She’s the one.”
