Miley Cyrus has entered a new era in her career, and everyone is loving it—after all, it was her deception that propelled her back to the top of the music charts.
The “Wrecking Ball” singer released “Flowers” on January 13, which also happens to be her ex-husband Liam Hemsworth’s birthday. This progression has pushed fans into overdrive, churning out as many theories as possible.
Some are quite out there, as are most fan theories, but some are more believable and popular than others, including the most obvious: is “Flowers” about Hemsworth?
While Cyrus has yet to respond to the rumors, her older sister, Brandi, had something to say about the whole thing.
She told Us Weekly:
“It’s so entertaining. The song did come out on his birthday – was that on purpose? I don’t know, can’t say. Genius though.”
That’s all the older Cyrus sister had to say about the matter, so it appears that the Cyrus family isn’t about to let anyone’s secrets go this time.
“Flowers” quickly became a TikTok sensation, and it was quickly added to thousands of girl anthem playlists.
She continued:
“The fans – I love Miley fans so much, they go hard in the paint. The fans on TikTok just keep creating narrative after narrative and it is so funny.”
“It makes Miley seem like an absolute genius, and it’s just too good. Every day I wake up to a new one.”
Another popular and well-known fan theory mentioned by Brandi during her interview was that “Flowers” was an interpolation of Bruno Mars’ “When I Was Your Man,” which was allegedly the song Hemsworth dedicated to Cyrus during their wedding.
Fans arranged the song lyrics side by side.
As Mars crooned:
“I should have bought you flowers,”
Cyrus sang:
“I can buy myself flowers.”
The rest of Mars’ chorus goes likes this:
“Should have gave you all my hours, When I had the chance / Take you to every party ’cause all you wanted to do was dance / Now my baby’s dancing, But she’s dancing with another man.”
While Cyrus’ song goes like this:
“Talk to myself for hours / Say things you don’t understand / I can take myself dancing / And I can hold my own hand / Yeah, I can love me better than you can.”
Other fan theories include the gold dress Cyrus wore in the music video, which fans pointed out resembles the dress Jennifer Lawrence wore to the premiere of the first “Hunger Games” film, in which Hemsworth starred.
There are numerous others, but neither Cyrus nor her sister confirmed or denied anything. Brandi did, however, encourage fans to keep coming.
“The narratives are f**king hilarious, but it’s so great. The best PR that could ever happen because it gets people talking about the song on TikTok and it’s everywhere. And it’s just so fun to watch it all play out. Miley fans, I love ya.”
She concluded:
“I’m not here to say that’s true and what’s not true. Only Miley knows the truth.”
